This Valentine’s Day, Baobab Calgary was transformed into something truly magical—a warm, intimate escape that whisked guests straight to the heart of South Africa. Our South African Deli & Boutique became a candlelit haven for romance, filled with the inviting aromas of slow-cooked comfort foods and the soft glow of an evening designed for love.

Every table was dressed with thoughtful South African touches—familiar textures, rustic elegance, and little details that reminded many of home. Soft music played in the background, mingling with the hum of conversation and laughter as couples and friends settled in for an unforgettable night.

The evening’s menu was a love letter to South African cuisine:
🥧 Starter: A savoury biltong quiche, buttery and golden, offering a flavour-packed twist on a national favourite.
🍖 Main: Guests had the choice of tender lamb shanks or hearty oxtail, each slow-cooked for hours in a rich red wine gravy until melt-in-the-mouth perfection, served alongside creamy mashed potatoes, sweet caramelised butternut, and velvety creamed mushroom spinach.
🍮 Dessert: A decadent finale combined two beloved classics—melktert perched atop syrupy malvapudding—a pairing so indulgent it left smiles on every face.

The wine flowed generously, with Haute Cabrière selections enhancing every bite. Each sip brought forward the lush flavours of South African terroir, perfectly complementing the rich and hearty dishes.

As the night unfolded, the room filled with the warmth of shared stories, gentle clinks of wine glasses, and the joy of connection. It wasn’t just a dinner—it was an experience; a reminder that food is more than sustenance—it’s a bridge to memories, culture, and togetherness.
